Careers, Work Experience and Work Related Learning
In preparation for Higher Education and working life, all students experience elements of Careers Education within the framework of CAPE (Citizenship, Advice, Information & Guidance, Personal Wellbeing) and are given opportunities to visit colleges and universities. We work in Partnership with the Connexions Service, who support all Year 11 students by offering them advice and guidance; helping them to recognise and realise their goals and familiarise them with interview processes and techniques.
In Year 10 all students participate in at least one week of Work Experience. They are expected to research the companies or employers that interest them, make contact and make any necessary arrangements (support is offered throughout). This gives them a valuable insight into the world of work, and is often a deciding factor in what they decide to study, or not to study further. Strong support from local employers together with help and enthusiasm from parents and Year 10 pupils makes this a truly educational and worthwhile activity.
A few pupils benefit from extended Work Experience, or Work Related Learning where they are placed with local employers for longer periods, or a on day-release basis during Years 10 and 11.
